Requesting Edit Permissions to SchoolMessenger Sites

Your manager has just informed you that you are the lucky person who is now responsible for the department/school web site. Do you have permission to edit pages on this site? How can you tell? Go to any page on the site and look for the black banner across the top of the screen as shown below:

Furthermore, if you hover over the Page Options menu dropdown, you should see options such as Check-out & Edit Page. If you do not see this, you will need to contact your department director or school principal to request rights for you.

If you are the department director or school principal, you should go to:

https://intranet.ocps.net/departments/chief_communications_office/web_and_technology_services/web_manager_change_request_forms/

In the menu on the left side of the page are options for Internet/Intranet and Schools. Department directors should click on the Internet/Intranet link. School Principals should click on the Schools link. In both cases a form appears which allows you to add, edit, or remove rights for your site. You must include the employee’s ID as employee names are not necessarily unique. You must also specify the department/school where you want to remove rights or add rights. You must also specify whether the user has Admin or Author rights for the site. The primary difference between these two is that Admin rights include delete permission. Then specify the URL of the department/school home page. Finally, click the Submit button.

If a request is received to grant rights to a user at a school, we will automatically remove their rights from prior school sites. However, that is not the case for department sites. When a person leaves OCPS, their ability to edit a site (district or school) is effectively removed when their login is revoked.

One final note: A separate form must be submitted for each person added or removed from a site.

The OCPS team generally checks emails created by this form once a day only so expect at least a 24 hour delay.

Warning: Do not use the Page Permissions options to grant rights to others for specific pages. Granting permissions this way cannot be tracked and managed at the global level and no current system reports identify rights granted in this way. If the core support team finds rights granted this way, they may delete them without prior warning
